With so many labels to choose from, you may feel a little confused, do you need a brand label, laundry label or country of origin label? Let's demystify the different types of labels you see on clothing to help you choose your own.

Choosing clothing labels can be tricky. Maybe you're not sure exactly what all the different labels are for, or what labels your items need, and that's okay. The term "clothing label" encompasses many different types of labels that you can find in clothing or textiles, so please be patient, read on and let us clarify some of the questions you may have.

If we're going to start with the basics, these are the things you should know. About five different types of labels can be found on any piece of clothing, and they are as follows: brand, care (including warning labels), content, size, and country of origin. This information is passed on to the customer (or the end user of the product you are labeling) so that they can make the most of it. Now, you may decide that your product doesn't need some information, or you may want to consolidate some of it into fewer labels - it's all possible! Below we'll discuss these different labels to help inspire you to come up with the right combination for your brand.

Brand label

Brand labels are the place to let your creativity shine. These labels reflect your brand style and brand identity through name, logo, color, and sometimes contact information. They can be large or small, hidden or integrated into the design of the item. We recommend that you choose an emblem for your brand and focus only on a few things, such as your brand name and logo. Keep these tabs simple (but rich in design!). Is the key to getting a compelling and memorable brand label without the need for additional information.

Care and content labeling

Care and content labels are information labels that can be found on the clothing or textiles you purchase. These labels tell the owner what material the item is made of and may include specific cleaning or washing instructions. This tag may display symbols and multiple lines of text at the same time, and using a printed tag is ideal for this purpose. Many care and content labels also show the country of origin, which you might consider adding together if you want to reduce the number of labels for the entire product. If you are selling to the public, be sure to check your local laws and guidelines before ordering. Many places have specific rules regarding care labels within textiles, so you need to follow these rules.

Size label

It's a good idea to include size labels on your clothes, especially if you plan to make similar items in multiple sizes or plan to sell them. Size labels can be placed anywhere on the garment, but are usually located next to the "Care and Contents" label or attached to the brand label. You can also choose to add sizing information directly to the care or brand labels you already plan to order, but this means you may need to order a range of labels if you plan to offer multiple sizes.

Country of origin labelling

The country of origin or "Madein" label represents the country of origin of the product. In most countries, this is a legal requirement. Sometimes, the origin is on the "Care & Contents" label, but if you want to show the heritage of your item, creating a separate label is a good way to do it.

tags

In a busy retail environment, hanging labels draws attention to your brand and merchandise. They are usually made with thick cardstock and displayed in a visible position on the item to provide information that shoppers want to know immediately, such as price and size. They are designed to be removed once an item has been purchased, so many designers use their tags as a place to tell the brand's story. This is a great way to give new customers a better idea of why your product is special as they browse the shelves.
